Avibras Aeroco and the Brazilian Army (EB) have reached a significant milestone in certifying the Tactical Cruise Missile (MTC). On Wednesday, 26 August, a successful missile firing test was carried out at the Army Evaluation Centre (Marambaia Test Range) in Rio de Janeiro.
The exercise fully met the objectives set for this phase, representing yet another milestone in the MTC certification process and reaffirming Brazil’s technological and operational capabilities in the development of highly complex defence systems.
The exercise involved teams from the Brazilian Army and Avibras Aeroco, who worked together seamlessly to carry out the launch and evaluate the results.
The Tactical Cruise Missile forms part of the ASTROS Artillery System’s portfolio of smart munitions and is capable of striking targets at ranges of up to 300 kilometres.
Among the officials present were Brigadier General João Paulo Zago, Head of the Army Evaluation Centre; Brigadier General (R1) Marcelo Gurgel do Amaral Silva, Manager of the Army’s FOGOS Strategic Programme; and Brigadier General (R1) Moisés da Paixão Junior, Manager of the Field Artillery Sub-programme. The exercise also involved the Army Projects Office (EPEx), the Manufacturing Directorate (DF), the Military Institute of Engineering (IME) and the Army Technology Centre (CTEx).
